Family Medicine in Cuba: current realities and challenges

The Cuban family medicine program has been in development for more than three decades as the third model of medical care of the revolutionary period in Cuba. It is the most complete expression of the application of the primary health care strategy. It still shows potential for improvement in the organization, quality and efficiency of services at the first level of health care. It is still a developing model, perfectible and susceptible to transformations to face new challenges, the greatest of which will be to renew the model, maintain and strengthen the founding ideas of the program.
