Introduction: the use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) in favor of health in older adults is a trend worldwide. In Cuba, experiences such as those in the municipality of Colón, Matanzas have existed for decades.
Objective: to describe the historical experiences of the application of ICT in favor of healthy aging in Colón and its social impact.
Methodological Design: a historical review was carried out based on 34 bibliographic sources of national and foreign origin.
Development: the first known initiative on Computational Psychoaptivation for the Elderly emerged in 1991 in Colón, and generated new conceptual contributions. The results of this project were of interest to national and foreign professionals, who generated the necessary momentum to continue amplifying the initial idea. Based on international collaboration, a reference Gerontological Center was created in the country, where medical care, teaching and research were promoted, linked to the use of ICT. The alliance with the Young Computer and Electronics Club (JCCE), universities, the government and the Primary Health Care (PHC) level, created and strengthened local capacities that helped promote healthy aging.
Conclusions: for more than 30 years, the use of ICT based on the well-being and health of older adults in Colón has generated important contributions of considerable impact at the local level, with recognition at the national and international level.
