Abstract

Introduction: abdominoplasty is a surgical process that consists of removing excess skin in people who require it with a navel reconstruction. Generally, they are obese people whose abdominal skin is stretched, also in women who have had a pregnancy in which their weight has exceeded the appropriate for their gestational age and then that skin does not retract in the postpartum period, remaining flaccid and hanging.

Objective: to describe abdominoplasty as a cosmetic surgery technique and its main complications.

Methodological Design: a review of the literature was carried out in the Scopus, SciELO and PubMed databases, obtaining 23 references.

Development: it consists of making a surgical incision that is located in an area of the lower abdomen, at the level of the pubis. The length of the incision is determined on physical examination. In this surgery, the abdominal cavity is not entered, the skin above the rectus abdominis muscles is simply going to be peeled off from the pubis to the first rib, the abdominal muscles are removed to achieve a better result, although this varies according to the technique used.

Conclusions: to carry out the process, a correct evaluation by the surgeon and the elaboration of the reconstruction plan are necessary. Among the most used surgical techniques is the anchor abdominoplasty or fleur de lis which treats the apron abdomen as well as body contouring. Possible risks include hemorrhage, infection and necrosis, complications that put the patient's health at risk.
