Narrative medicine as a cornerstone of transformation in Family Medicine
Keywords:
Education; Continuing medical education; Narrative Medicine; Family MedicineAbstract
The editorial on Family Medicine proposes curriculum updates and technological empowerment, but omits narrative medicine as an integrating axis. This competency allows for listening to and interpreting life stories, contributing: a pedagogy of clinical complexity in the face of aging and multimorbidity; electronic health records as narrative repositories to ensure continuity of care; and translational research based on daily practice. Cuba, with its strong tradition in social medicine, can incorporate this approach into curriculum redesign to avoid dehumanized practice and keep the patient's voice at the center of the consultation room.
