FOCUS AND SCOPE

MedEst Journal is the official scientific dissemination body of the University Student Federation (FEU) at the University of Medical Sciences of Matanzas, in the Republic of Cuba. Since its creation, it has established itself as an essential space for the promotion and dissemination of research in the field of health sciences, aimed at both students and professionals in medicine and related branches, interested in scientific advances from an innovative perspective. The journal seeks to encourage the early publication of academic works and contribute to the continuous development of medical sciences.

With a continuous publication model, MedEst Journal ensures agile and timely dissemination of scientific content.

Its visual identity is represented by a logo that synthesizes the essence of medicine and academia: a Rod of Asclepius, the universal symbol of the medical profession, intertwined with a serpent, crowned by a mortarboard that evokes academic achievement and the future graduation of students.

OBJECTIVES

To establish a high-impact academic platform that meets the publication needs of students and professionals in Medical Sciences, both Cuban and international, in compliance with Agreement 25 of Commission 3 of the VII National Congress of the FEU. The journal aims to be a rigorous and inclusive space for disseminating cutting-edge research in health sciences, fostering scientific criticism, reflection, and debate on priority medical and public health issues. With international editorial standards, MedEst Journal seeks to make the work of emerging researchers visible, enrich the global scientific dialogue, and drive innovation in medical education and practice.

MISSION

To manage the quality publication of MedEst Journal, from Matanzas, with the mission of disseminating the scientific-technical work of students and health professionals, Cuban and foreign, covering all aspects of Medical Sciences.

VISION

MedEst aims to achieve a publication that disseminates quality scientific material, with transparency and accessibility, serving as a reference framework at a national and international level for health sciences researchers. Furthermore, it seeks to achieve and maintain a better positioning.

It adheres to the uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals: writing and editing for biomedical publication (www.icmje.org), and promotes the application of international standards or established good practices both for the preparation of articles and for their publication.

Manuscripts that have been previously published or are being considered for possible publication in another journal are not accepted. However, documents previously published on recognized preprint servers (Scielo Preprints, medRxiv, arXiv, bioRxiv, PLOS, and others considered by the editorial committee) are accepted.

If an article is published in whole or in part on the websites of an event or congress, on a preprint server (Scielo Preprints, PMC, PLOS, medRxiv), or an academic social network (ResearchGate), authors must mention in their submission the availability of the document on any of these servers, as well as its exact location.

Each issue is published in electronic version and is accessible through https://revmedest.sld.cu/index.php/medest, using the Open Journal System (OJS) format, with ISSN 2789-7567 and RNPS 2524.

MedEst Journal adheres to the uniform requirements for manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals ―writing and editing for publication (www.icmje.org)―, and promotes the application of international standards or established good practices, both for the preparation of articles and for their publication.
