Adverse reactions to psychoactive drugs in Las Tunas province, 2013- 2020.

Introduction: Psychoactive drugs are essential for the treatment and management of psychiatric disorders, they have good efficacy and safety, and however they are not exempt from causing adverse reactions.
Objective: to characterize the adverse reactions to psychoactive drugs, reported to the database in the province of Las Tunas, in the period 2013-2020.
Methodological design: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, crosssectional study was carried out in the place and time mentioned above with the objective previously stated. The universe was constituted by the records in the period of time covered and the sample the 112 patients who reported adverse reactions to psychoactive drugs that were registered in the provincial coordinating unit of Pharmacovigilance in the period 2013-2020. A purposive probability sampling was used.
Results: The predominant age group was 41-58 years (39.2 %), female sex (51.8 %) and the reason for prescription was anxiety (19.6 %). Frequency, causality and severity corresponded to occasional (38.3 %), mild (52.7 %) and probable (72.3 %) respectively. The most common pharmacological group was sedatives and anxiolytics (52.7 %) and the most reported drug was Haloperidol (17 for 15.2 %), the most frequent organ system was the central nervous system with 30 (33.7 %) and the most frequent adverse reaction was somnolence, dizziness, tremors, tachycardia, hypotension, involuntary movements, dryness and rash (4.5 % each).
Conclusions: A possible underreporting of adverse reactions was noted, adverse reactions to psychoactive drugs were characterized in Las Tunas during the period 2013-2020.
