Caracterización fisiopatológica de la fenilcetonuria.
Resumen
Introducción: la fenilcetonuria constituye un trastorno congénito del metabolismo causado por el déficit en la síntesis de la enzima fenilalanina hidroxilasa, ocasionando pérdida de su función o disminución de la misma, bloqueando el metabolismo del aminoácido esencial fenilalanina de tipo oligofrénico.
Objetivo: caracterizar fisiopatológicamente a la fenilcetonuria.
Diseño Metodológico: se identificaron 34 artículos de los cuales se incluyeron 20, siendo más del 75 % de los últimos 3 años; provenientes de buscadores académicos como PubMed, MedLine, Ovid, ResearchGate y Google Scholar.
Desarrollo: es considerada en la actualidad como un error innato del metabolismo de los aminoácidos, caracterizada por una alteración en el cual el organismo no puede metabolizar el aminoácido tirosina a partir de fenilalanina. En Cuba el programa de pesquisa neonatal de fenilcetonuria ha permitido mantener una vigilancia y seguimiento de cada enfermo en todo el territorio nacional, con resultados satisfactorios que han permitido que se eleve la calidad de vida de todos los pacientes con esta patología.
Conclusiones: la fenilcetonuria es la enfermedad metabólica hereditaria más prevalente en la edad adulta que se produce por un defecto en el metabolismo de la fenilalanina. De acuerdo a la heterogeneidad, se considera alélica. En cuanto a su efecto pleiotrópico se puede evidenciar diversas manifestaciones clínicas propias de la enfermedad. Se puede lograr un adecuado control metabólico y, así retrasar sus complicaciones y aumentar la esperanza de vida con el tratamiento que, en la mayoría de los casos es fundamentalmente dietético-nutricional.
