Chronic non-communicable diseases represent a significant challenge to global health, influencing quality of life and causing disabilities. In Cuba, malignant tumors are the second cause of death, with breast cancer being the most common neoplasm among women, causing a total of 1,753 deaths in 2022. The diagnosis impacts not only physically, but also psychologically and socially, generating anxiety, depression and alterations in family dynamics.
The Amazonas de la Esperanza Support Group, founded in 2006, aims to promote prevention and well-being through an integrative approach. This group seeks to readjust the family and social relationships of patients, promoting interactions that transform the disease into an opportunity for growth. In addition, it includes medical science students in community activities, which strengthens its impact and expands care to vulnerable populations.
The achievements of the group and its projects, which are linked to research and health promotion, underline the importance of prevention and comprehensive care, facing the challenges that arise to improve the quality of life of patients and their families in the province.
